These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Shelf (the "Service"), operated by Gonçalo Nicolau, a sole trader established in Portugal, doing business as Shelf ("Shelf", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You can contact us at shelfapppt@gmail.com.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using Shelf you confirm that you are 18 or older and can enter into a binding agreement.
Shelf is a reading reflection application. It provides guided onboarding, personalized book recommendations, and a short guided debrief after reading sessions that helps you capture and apply what you read. Your reflections are stored in a personal library tied to your account.
Shelf does not sell, host, or distribute books. You bring your own. Recommendations and debrief questions are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence and may not always be accurate or complete. The Service supports your own thinking and is not a substitute for professional advice.
Shelf is currently offered as a free beta, provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. It may change, break, or be unavailable at times, and features may be added, modified, or removed. We may contact you for feedback and may end the beta or your access to it at any time.
You are responsible for the security of your account and for all activity under it. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it current. Tell us promptly at shelfapppt@gmail.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
Content you create in Shelf, including onboarding answers, reflections, debrief responses, and lessons ("Your Content"), belongs to you. It is private to your account and is not published or shown to other users.
You grant us a limited license to store and process Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you, including sending relevant content to our AI provider to generate recommendations and debrief questions. We do not sell Your Content. Data handling is described in our Privacy Policy.
You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose; to access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours; to interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service; to reverse engineer it except where permitted by law; or to advertise, resell, or transfer access to your account.
Shelf relies on third-party providers for hosting, database, email, analytics, error monitoring, and AI processing. Your use of Shelf may be subject to those providers' terms. We choose providers we consider appropriate but are not responsible for their acts or omissions.
You may export a copy of your data or delete your account at any time from within the Service. When you delete your account, associated data is removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. You may also contact us at shelfapppt@gmail.com to exercise these rights.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of AI-generated content. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any recommendation or reflection will produce a particular result.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shelf is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Because the Service is currently free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for the beta is zero. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends and your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are subject to the competent courts of Portugal, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you under the law of your country of residence.
